Author's Name: Lucy M. Written Age: 10 Traveled Age: 8 It started with a boat ride, leaving from Port Douglas to gorgeous Low Island. I’ll admit it, on the way there we looked ridiculous, though in our heads we pictured ourselves as professional snorkelers. We had to wear wetsuits, those are like a bathing suit for your entire body, and I can say with confidence waddling everywhere is the least attractive way to get around. Splash! The chilly water had embraced me, which had caused goosebumps to rise up my arm, despite my full coverage suit. The mask on my face made the world under the sea so clear. I took another breath and watched the mysterious fish glide by. I could see fish of every color imaginable. As luck would have it, I even swam past lemon sharks and a white-tailed reef shark! I wondered, how it could be possible for a world so beautiful to be hidden by a gate of water. The coral and fish must have been from a dream since nothing so dazzling could actually have been on earth. My head rose from the water to see my dad and two sisters swimming excitedly towards open water. I swam my way over to a huddle of people, then I saw it. Wow! It was a sea turtle, a living green sea turtle. The glorious shell was at least three feet long. Thoughts of riding it freely into the horizon filled my mind. At that moment, my life jacket tried to restrain me, but nothing could stop me from touching that magical shell. It wore a cloak of green algae. My hand brushed it, like how a mother would touch the face of her baby. A touch of love. Back on land, I waddled as fast as I could (picture a determined penguin), to tell my mom what I had seen. Standing on mounds of bleached coral and broken shells, I realized I had experienced an event that only happens once in a lifetime. Free from the sweat filled suit, I walked along the shore to collect the sea’s gifts, hoping to savor the moment. Even now I can not picture a better way to spend a day.
